Rutland Joins AU Baseball Staff

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Former Anderson University pitcher Jason Rutland has been named assistant baseball coach, AU head baseball coach Joe Miller announced Tuesday afternoon. Rutland, a native of Barnwell, S.C., played at Anderson from 2000 to 2003. During his career with the Trojans, he had a career record of 18-12. In '02, Rutland was 9-2 with an ERA of 2.08 and was selected to the All-CVAC second team. Rutland was a Dean's List student in '02-03 and a finalist for the CVAC's Murphy Osbourne Award in '03. After graduating from Anderson with a B.S. degree in kinesiology with a concentration in physical education, Rutland started his career at Hillcrest High School in Fountain Inn, S.C., as head junior varsity baseball coach. From Hillcrest, he moved to Williston-Elko High School in Williston, S.C., where he served one year as head varsity baseball coach and taught physical education. He comes to Anderson after one year as athletic director at Bryson Middle School. Rutland is a certified personal trainer and a member of the National Endurance and Sports Trainers Association.
