McClain Leads Pfeiffer To Rout Of Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. - Mike McClain drove in eight runs and Bryan Braxton and Kyle Pugh drove in five runs apiece to lead Pfeiffer University to a 31-8 victory over Anderson University in a CVAC game Sunday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Pfeiffer, 11-23 overall and 6-9 in the CVAC, collected 28 hits against seven Anderson pitchers. The Falcons also benefited from 13 walks and four Anderson errors. McClain, Pfeiffer's starting pitcher, had a three-run triple in the fourth inning, a run-scoring single in the fifth, and a grand slam in the sixth. He finished the game 4-for-6 with three runs scored. The Falcons trailed 5-0 after the first but then they scored 16 unanswered runs to take control of the game. The Falcons batted around in second, fourth, fifth, and sixth. They scored seven runs in the second, eight runs in both the fourth and fifth, and six runs in the sixth. After collecting five hits their five-run first, the Trojans had just four hits in the final eight innings. Braxton hit a three-run homer in the fifth, and Pugh had a run-scoring single in the second, a solo home run in the third, a two-run single in the fourth, and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Five Pfeiffer players ended the game with at least three hits apiece. McClain allowed nine hits and all eight Anderson runs in six innings. Three Pfeiffer relievers - Ryan Chambers, Tyler Clark, and George Smith - pitched one scoreless inning apiece to close out the rout. Pfeiffer's 31 runs is the most runs Anderson has allowed in a single game since the Trojans joined NCAA Division II in 1999.
