Saints Complete Two-Game Sweep Of AU

ANDERSON, S.C. - Erik Good drove in four runs and three North Georgia pitchers scattered nine hits to lead the Saints to an 8-2 victory over Anderson University in a non-conference game Thursday night at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The victory improves North Georgia to 23-19 overall and gives the Saints a sweep of a two-game mid-week series against the Trojans, 18-29. North Georgia outscored Anderson 18-4 in the two games. Good, a sophomore catcher from Dahlonega, Ga., hit a two-run homer in the first inning, a run-scoring single in the third, and a sacrifice fly in the seventh. North Georgia finished the game with 14 hits, four for extra bases. The Saints scored two in the second, two in the third, and one in the fifth against Anderson starter and loser Nate Miller (1-4). North Georgia starter and winner Mark Thomas allowed just four singles in the first five innings, but in the sixth, the Trojans knocked him out of the game. A single by Jonathan Pitts, a walk, and a single by Cody Nye loaded the bases with no outs and ended Thomas' night. Jessie Whiteside greeted reliever Dustin Wellborn with a sharp single to center to score Pitts and end the shutout. But a fly out to short center and a double play ended the Anderson threat. Wellborn blanked Anderson in the seventh and eighth before he was replaced by Garrett Lussi, who allowed one hit - a double by Blair Carson -- and one run in the ninth. The three Saints pitchers were aided by three double plays. A two-out RBI single by Brian Lauderdale pushed North Georgia's lead to 6-0 in the sixth. Anderson threatened to break up the shutout in the fifth. Carson and Don Ballard both singled to start the inning. A sacrifice by Josh Harrison moved the runners to second and third, but a pop up and a ground out ended the threat. Leading 4-0, the Saints added a single run in the fifth on a solo home run by Justin Rickett. A sacrifice fly by Rickett and a run-scoring single by Good increased the Saint lead to 4-0 in the third. North Georgia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second on Good's two-run homer. Pitts, Whiteside, and Carson all had two hits apiece for Anderson. The Trojans entertain CVAC foe Limestone Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon. 2006 Anderson University Baseball Statistics
