BELMONT, N.C. - Belmont Abbey used a ninth-inning comeback to beat Anderson University 11-10 Sunday afternoon and sweep the three-game CVAC series from the Trojans. The Crusaders improve to 19-26 overall and 13-8 in the CVAC, while the Trojans fall to 17-27, 7-9 in the conference. Anderson started the game on a tear. B.J. Belmont Abbey had an answer in their half, however, and plated five runs on four hits to tie it at 5-5. The two teams traded runs over the next three innings and the score was 7-7 after four. Seth Waller led off the fifth inning with a solo homer to give the Crusaders an 8-7 advantage, which they held until the seventh. Andrew Morton retired the first batter on a strikeout but the next batter reached on an error. Jesse Whiteside doubled to put runners on second and third and Blair Carson, who hit a game-tying homer in yesterday's game two, launched a three-run shot to left center for the 10-8 Anderson advantage. The Abbey went scoreless over the next two innings, despite getting a leadoff triple from Seth Waller in the seventh. Morton sent the Trojans down in order in the eighth and ninth innings, giving BAC one last chance in their final at-bat. Ryan Ronda hit a one-out double to get things going and Nick Popp singled to put runners on the corners.
