Lady Trojans Win 12th Straight, Rip L-M, 96-66

ANDERSON, S.C. -- LaShonda Chiles scored 25 points and handed out six assists and Deanna Thompson and Stephanie Ponds scored 22 points apiece to lead No. 6 Anderson College to a 96-66 victory over Lees-McRae in a CVAC game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 22-2 overall and 13-1 in the CVAC, won its 12th straight game. The loss drops Lees-McRae to 10-11, 7-7. Chiles, a 5-foot-2 sophomore from Greenwood, also had five of Anderson's 11 steals. Kim Hausman came off the bench to score 12 points for Anderson, while Deidra Langston chipped in 11. Hausman was 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Lees-McRae was led by Stephanie Mullinax with 17 points, Deanna Lady with 15 points, and Amanad Huffaker with 10 points. Anderson built a 12-point lead in the first eight minutes of the game. The Bobcats never got closer than seven points the rest of the way. Anderson led 45-31 at the half then used a 40-19 run in the first 13 minutes of the second half to put the game away. Two free throws by Haley Riffle gave Anderson is largest lead of the game at 37 points -- 89-52 -- with 5:59 to play. Ponds, who was 11-for-16 from the field, grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds to record her 11th double-double of the season. Ponds and Langston also blocked three shots apiece. Anderson won the boards, 42-31. Anderson scored 24 points off 18 Lees-McRae turnovers. The Lady Trojans, ranked No. 4 in the East Region poll, shot 58 percent in the first half and finished the game at 53 percent. Lees-McRae shot 42 percent from the field. Anderson was 10-for-22 from behind the arc. Thompson made four 3-point goals, Hausman made three, and Chiles made three. The Lady Trojans had 24 assists on 39 baskets. Thompson had seven of Anderson's assists. In the last 40 games they have scored 80 or more points, the Lady Trojans are 40-0.
