Ponds' Double-Double Leads AC Past Francis Marion

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Stephanie Ponds scored a career-high 26 points, grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, and blocked five shots to lead No. 11 Anderson College to an 86-59 rout of Francis Marion Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 8-1 overall, ran its winning streak to seven straight. The Lady Trojans will now break for Christmas. Their next game is at home against Presbyterian on Jan. 3. The loss drops Francis Marion to 3-6. The Lady Trojans have scored 80 or more points in five of their last six games. In the last 27 games the Lady Trojans have scored 80 or more points, they are 27-0. Anderson is now 6-0 against teams from the state of South Carolina this season. Ponds, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Bethune, S.C., was 11-for-16 from the field and grabbed seven of her rebounds off the offensive glass. Ponds has scored in double figures in eight of Anderson's nine games this season. Her previous high this season was 17 points against Coastal Carolina on Nov. 19. LaShonda Chiles added 20 points for Anderson. Chiles has scored 20 or more points in three of Anderson's last four games. Deanna Thompson made four 3-point goals for Anderson on her way to 16 points. Thompson also had six of Anderson's 14 steals. Francis Marion was led by Creshenda Singletary with 13 points and Danielle Moore with 12 points. Anderson never trailed in the game and there were no ties. Anderson's biggest lead of the first half was 16 -- 39-23 -- with 2:37 remaining. In the second half, Anderson limited Francis Marion to 27 percent from the field. The Lady Trojans' largest lead in the second half was 28 -- 83-55 -- with 1:20 remaining. Anderson scored 23 points off 28 Francis Marion turnovers. For the game, Anderson shot 38 percent from the field to 32 percent for Francis Marion.
