Lady Trojans Sink Fleet, 94-62

ANDERSON, S.C. -- LaShonda Chiles and Latrice Thomas scored 20 points apiece and Deanna Thompson added 19 points to lead No. 11 Anderson College to a 94-62 rout of Erskine College in a CVAC game Monday night at the Abney Center. With the victory, Anderson, 14-2 overall and 6-1 in the CVAC, moves into a first-place tie with Mount Olive, which lost to Belmont Abbey Monday night. Anderson plays host to Mount Olive Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The loss drops Erskine to 7-5, 3-3. Chiles, a 5-foot-2 sophomore from Greenwood, S.C., has scored in double figures in every game this season and she has scored 20 or more points nine times. Erskine led by six -- 12-6 -- five minutes into the game but a 37-11 run in the final 15 minutes of the half gave Anderson a 43-23 lead at the break. A 9-0 run midway through the second half pushed Anderson's lead to 29 -- 73-44 -- with 9:06 to play. Thomas and Chiles both had three-point plays during the run. A field goal by Deidra Langston, who scored 12 points, gave Anderson its largest lead of 36 -- 86-50 -- with 5:15 remaining. Stephanie Ponds recorded her ninth double-double of the season for the Lady Trojans -- 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Shemika Reed had another solid game for the Lady Trojans -- 10 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Anderson shot 65 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game at 52 percent. Erskine managed just 29 percent from the field against a variety of Anderson defenses. Anderson was 20-for-23 from the free throw line. Chiles was 7-for-7 from the stripe, while Thomas was 6-for-6. Led by Ponds, Anderson dominated the boards, 48-31. Langston followed Ponds for Anderson with nine rebounds. Erskine was led by Anita Owens with 21 points. Owens was 5-for-8 from behind the arc. Lisa Jackson added 13 for the Fleet. Anderson is now 8-0 against schools from the state of South Carolina this season. In the last 33 games the Lady Trojans have scored 80 or more points, they are 33-0. The Lady Trojans have scored 90 or more points in their last four games.
