Bishoff Awarded NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Anderson University cross country and track standout Whitney Bishoff has been awarded a postgraduate scholarship from the National Collegiate Athletic Association, as announced recently by the NCAA.

Bishoff, a native of Winder, Ga., was one of only 29 male and 29 female fall sports student-athletes receiving $7,500 each from the NCAA. Similar awards were given to winter and spring student-athletes, totaling 174 individual winners. This is the second time an Anderson University student-athlete has claimed the honor - former volleyball record-holder Jamie Lancaster earned the accolade a year ago.

To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.

Bishoff was named to the NCAA All-Southeast Region Cross Country Team following last season and earned South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week accolades three times in 2011, after capturing the honor on two occasions in 2010. She paced the Trojan cross country squad on 18 consecutive occasions over the past three seasons, posting 12 of the top 15 times in school history in the 5k.

She led the Trojans to their second consecutive South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championship last fall, earning First-Team All-SAC accolades again as the Trojans outdistanced former two-time title-holder Lenoir-Rhyne.

Named the 2010-2011 Anderson University Female Student-Athlete of the Year, Bishoff carries a 4.0 GPA as an education major. She was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Women's Track & Cross Country first team following last season, after earning ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team accolades in 2009. She was one of only three Georgia natives and represented the only school from the state of South Carolina in either the University or College divisions to earn a first-team nod.

Bishoff earned the prestigious NCAA Elite 88 Award at the 2011 Indoor Track & Field Championships last March and as an encore, she was named the recipient of the Elite 89 award for the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Championships in November, while making her made her third career appearance in the event.

Created in 1964, NCAA postgraduate scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. Additional information is available on the NCAA website.
