Women’s Cross Country Wins Second Consecutive Conference Championship

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. - Senior Whitney Bishoff posted another stellar performance to help lead the Anderson University women's cross country team to its second consecutive Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, as the Trojans outdistanced former two-time title-holder Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday morning at Panther Creek State Park.

The 5k event, hosted by Carson-Newman, saw yet another individual duel between Bishoff and Lenoir-Rhyne's Kate Grieswich, with Grieswich (18:09.0) edging Bishoff (18:34.9) for the title. Both runners earned first-team-all conference honors for their efforts.

The duo, both seniors, combined to win every SAC Runner of the Week award this season and split the last two SAC Runners of the Year titles, with Bishoff taking last year's title after Griewisch won the individual crown in 2009.

Sophomore Hannah Robles (20:38.2) brought home a ninth-place finish, while also garnering second-team All-SAC accolades, along with junior Amanda Johnson (20:47.6), who crossed the line in 14th.

Freshman Sydney Hazel (20:53.7) was named to the All-Freshman team after finishing 15th, while junior Emily Eckroth (21:16.2) crossed the line in the 20th spot. Sophomore Rachel Westberry (21:34.6) finished 25th and sophomore Lydia Davis, who has been hampered by injuries and missed the last month of competition, finished 34th in a time of 21:50.6

Head Coach Randy Greer was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Next up for the Trojans are the Southeastern Regional Championships on Nov. 5 in Charlotte, N.C.
