Women’s Cross Country Continues to Set the Pace for Academic Excellence

ANDERSON, S.C. - For the third consecutive semester and the fifth time in the past three-plus years, the Anderson women's cross country team has been named the recipient of the Dr. Shirley Jacks Academic Excellence Award, which is presented to the team that possesses the highest grade point average for each semester.

The squad claimed the honor after wrapping up the spring semester of 2011 with an impressive team grade point average of 3.47, which capped an impressive year for the runners.

Anderson, the defending South Atlantic Conference champions, recently claimed seventh place overall and topped the NCAA D-II schools at USC Upstate's Eye Opener last week.

The award - a silver Trojan helmet - is given in honor of Dr. Jacks, a longtime supporter of AU athletics.
