Bishoff Places 16th in 10000m at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Anderson junior Whitney Bishoff posted a school-record time of 35:37.97 en route to a 16th-place finish in the 10000 meter run at the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Relays at Franklin Field late Thursday night.

The event, originally scheduled for a 10:15 p.m. start, did not begin until just before midnight due to storm that passed through the area earlier in the day.

The Penn Relays is widely considered to be the most prestigious outdoor track and field event in the United States, attracting more than 22,000 entries in 2010, about half of whom were high schoolers, along with world-class athletes competing over a three-day span. The three-day attendance is likely to top 110,000 and more spectators have watched the meet than any in the world except the Olympics and World Championships. It is rivaled by only the Drake Relays in the U.S.

Bishoff, recently named Anderson's 2011 Female Student-Athlete of the Year, set a then-new school record in late March in the event with a time of 36:48.50 at NC State's Raleigh Relays.

The Winder, Ga., native also qualified for the 2011 Indoor Track & Field Championships in March and also holds the school record for the one mile run.
Bishoff and six of her teammates will return to competition on May 13-14 in Clemson at the Tiger Qualifier.
