Trojan Track and Field Teams Claim Third at Southeast Regional Championships

HICKORY, N.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams combined to claim nine top spots and 21 top-five finishes on the day as each squad placed third at the Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University, Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track at the Moretz Sports-Athletic Complex.

Junior Lauren Sloan won the hammer throw with a distance of 45.18 meters and also claimed the top spot in the shot put at 13.31 meters, while teammate Durecelle Campbell finished second in the hammer toss at 37.40 meters. Sloan followed up by finishing fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 34.04 meters.

Krishaun Hall won the 100 meter dash in 12.41 seconds and placed fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.06 seconds, while Sarah Solesbee placed 10th at 27.43.

Junior Whitney Bishoff captured first in the 1500 meter run, with Lydia Davis close behind in third at 4:49.45. Davis followed soon thereafter with a first-place finish in the 800 meter run.

Senior Katelyn Rodgers finished third in the javelin throw at 26.92 meters, third in the high jump, reaching a height of 1.55 meters and took ninth in the long jump with a distance of 4.69 meters. She also took eighth in the 100 meter hurdles at 18.13 seconds.

Freshman Elizabeth Fastzkie also posted a height of 1.55 meters in high jump, with sophomore Joelle Purinton finishing seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.91 seconds. Sophomore Re'Jenia Evans placed fifth in the 100 meter dash at 12.70 seconds, while sophomore Emily Eckroth claimed ninth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:56.29.

The AU 4x100 meter women's relay squad, comprised of Evans, Kourtney Squires, Sarah Solesbee and Hall, was first with time of 48.66, while the men's 4x100 relay (Josh Butler, Zach Hart, Nigel Reynolds and Terence Jefferson) posted a third-place finish with a time of 42.96.

The Trojans' 4x400 meter women's relay squad (Davis, Evans, Bishoff and Hall) was fifth with time of 4:20.36, while the men's 4x400 relay, comprised of Nigel Reynolds, Deniz Hay, Terence Jefferson and Matt Shaffer, posted a third-place finish with a time of 3:25.69.
On the men's side, sophomore Will Byars claimed second in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.82 meters and also placed second in the shot put with a toss of 13.58 meters. The Anderson, S.C., native placed sixth in the discus with a toss of 37.70 meters.

Sophomore Zach Hart claimed first in the javelin throw at 54.40 meters and also finished first in the pole vault with a height of 4.55 meters, while Byars placed second with a distance of 42.99 meters in the javelin throw. Hart also finished ninth in high jump with a height of 1.70 meters.

Freshman Terrence Jefferson finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.30 seconds and fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.02 seconds, while claiming seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.75 meters.

Freshman Kyle Koby earned fifth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 33:07.11 and
in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase, sophomore Alex Pena claimed fourth with a time of 9:58.51, Freshman Deniz Hay finished third in the 1500 meter run at 4:01.50 and sophomore Matt Shaffer finished second in the 800 meter, crossing the line in 1:53.98, just three-one hundredths of a second out of first, while freshman Parks Edwards took eighth in the 5000 meter run in a time of 15:49.66.
