Bishoff Competes at NCAA Championships

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Anderson junior Whitney Bishoff posted a seventh-place finish in the first heat of two preliminary rounds in the one mile run at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, but was unable to advance to Saturday's finals at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Bishoff capped off a stellar indoor track season that saw her post school-record times in multiple events, including a new school-best in the mile. Friday afternoon's time of 5:22.01 was nearly 25 seconds off her school-record time of 4:57.25 set earlier this season.

The native of Winder, Ga., also garnered first-place finishes during the season in the 3000 meter at Clemson's Tiger Tuneup and in the 800 meter at Lenoir-Rhyne's PowerSox Invitational.

She was named the winner of the NCAA's prestigious Elite 88 award for women's indoor track & field at the championship banquet Thursday night. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.
