LOUISVLLE, Ky. – The Anderson University softball team had eight players capture Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete honors for the 2021-22 academic year.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories, which recognized 7,527 collegiate student athletes this year.
Sydney Belcher, Maddie Carpenter, Taylor Crews, Harlie Duncan, Emily LaFoy, Laken Maxwell, Maggie Nauck, and Gracie Williams were honored as Academic All-Americans. For the South Atlantic Conference as a whole, 98 athletes were selected among eight teams. Lincoln Memorial and Newberry both had 16 players listed, the most by the conference.
"We always stress the importance of good academics and work ethic in the classroom," said coach Tommy Hewitt. "We are proud of our student athletes. More importantly, we are proud of the eight student athletes in the class of 2022 who earned this honor. Congrats to our team who in Div. II are ranked 68th in the country in Academic GPA and to the eight scholar all-americans."
The Trojans finished the season with a 3.65 cumulative GPA, which ranks tied for 68th nationally in NCAA Division II. In May, Harlie Duncan and Laken Maxwell were both selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, while Duncan earned All-American honors a month later.
