ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University softball (11-1) won its eleventh straight win in explosive fashion, defeating Augusta (5-5) in game one, 11-0 (5) and game two, 10-2 (6), Sunday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.
"Kudos to our pitching staff today as well as yesterday," said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "We played up to our true potential all day today."
On the day, the Trojans exploded for 21 runs, using 15 hits with eight being for extra bases.
Senior Kayson Boatner (4-for-7) drilled three home runs, including a grand slam while tallying nine RBI. Senior Jessica Neadow batted 3-for-6 with a double and home run, while freshman Maddie Carpenter went 3-for-3 with a double. Sophomore Yas Laureano blasted a grand slam to left field for her first home run of the season and third of her career.
AU's Harlie Duncan (5-1) pitched complete gave, giving up three hits and striking out three.
AU's Maxwell (6-0) pitched a complete 6 inning dandy, striking out five batters, while giving up five hits.
Boatner leads the conference in Batting Average, Total RBI and Home Runs, while Maxwell leads the league in strikeouts with 51.
Anderson returns to action on Saturday against nonconference opponent LeMoyne. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
