Trojans Split with No. 23 Limestone

ANDERSON, S.C.-The Anderson University softball team used solid pitching and the long ball to defeat No. 23 Limestone in game one, 6-3 while falling 11-4 in a weather shortened game two in a nonconference battle on Tuesday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

NOTES
• The Trojans are now 22-6 on the year.
• With the split, Limestone holds a 25-5 overall record.

NOTABLES
• Senior Augie Pena batted a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with two home runs and four RBI.
• Freshman Mattie Hamilton went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI during the doubleheader.
• Freshman Meghan Majeski batted 2-for-5 with one stolen base while also crossing the plate once on the day.
• Junior Trudi Shuman went 1-for-1 in game two.

PITCHING
Senior hurler Angie Pena (10-1) pitched another solid game allowing just five hits while striking out six. Pena became Anderson's all-time career strikeout leader with her fifth strikeout of the game in the top of the sixth inning.

Limestone's Kaylee Freeman (4-1) suffered her first loss of the season in five innings of work. Freeman allowed four hits and five earned runs

GAME 1
Anderson 6, Limestone 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Limestone threatened in the top of the first inning with the second and third batters of the inning reaching base with one out. Pena was able to work out of the early jam by striking out two of her six batters on the day. The Trojans recorded a scoreless first inning.
• The Saints were able to score twice in the top of the second on two base hits and a walk.
• The Trojans rallied back in the bottom half of the second after Courtney Czentnar and Michaela Smith reached on walks. Pena stepped to the plated and blasted the ball over the fence to put Anderson ahead, 3-2.
• Limestone responded in the top of the third using two singles and a walk to knot the game at 3-3.
• Anderson was able to regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth on Pena's second long ball of the day, 4-3.
• The Black and Gold was able to tack on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to set the final score at 6-3. Hamilton lead the inning off with a solo shot with Czentnar scoring a few plays later using a Saint error.

GAME 2
Anderson 4, Limestone 11

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Limestone took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first holding Anderson scoreless until the fifth inning.
• The Saints blew the game wide open after an eight run third inning. Limestone used six hits, an error and a walk to explode to a 9-0 lead.
• Limestone added two more runs to its side in the top of the fifth in great positon to run-rule the Trojans.
• Anderson would not go done without a fight scoring four runs to extend the game. With two-outs in the bottom of the fifth, Grant and Majeski were able to score on a high hit ball that fell in short center followed by a two-run blast by Hamilton.
• After encountering the second lightening delay of the night, the game was official called, 11-4.

PITCHING
Senior Lauren Rudesheim (7-3) got the nod in game two and was lifted after two innings in favor of junior Randee Bettis. Bettis pitched three innings giving up four hits and four runs while striking out six.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE DAY
The Trojans have hit a total of nine home runs in the last six games with Hamilton claiming five of those.

UP NEXT
• Anderson hits the road to face SAC foe Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m.
