ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University softball team will begin its 2017 season on the road when it faces Conference Carolina opponent Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

Overall Record – Anderson leads 36-14 (1998-2015)

The Trojans and Warriors have met on the diamond every year since the 1998 season, with the rare exceptions of the 2009 and 2014 campaigns. Anderson holds a 36-14 advantage in the all-time series between the two programs, including a 21-7 edge in Anderson and a 15-7 edge in Central. AU and Southern Wesleyan split their matchups in 2013, with the Trojans claiming victories in 17 of the last 19 meetings.

* Three Trojans were placed on the 2017 All-SAC preseason team...Senior Augie Pena earned first-team, while senior Lauren Rudesheim and junior Cailah Niles garnered second-team honors.

* The Trojans are led by 12th year head coach Tommy Hewitt.

SOUTHERN WESLEYAN OVERVIEW

* The Warriors are playing in their first official year in Conference Carolinas and was picked to finish ninth in the league.

* Southern Wesleyan's roster features (7)seniors, (5)juniors, (3)sophomores and (7)freshman.

* The Warriors are coach by 3rd year head coach Becca Staton.

* Southern Wesleyan finished the 2016 season with an overall record of 23-31.

QUICK HITS

* This is the first time since the 2012-13 season that the Black and Gold will open up their season on the road.

* Coach Hewitt's teams are 5-6 in season openers, winning their last four straight.
