LADY TROJANS SPLIT WITH ROYALS IN DOUBLEHEADER

CHARLOTTE, NC--Four Lady Trojan pitchers took to the circle in game one of a Saturday Conference Carolinas doubleheader, only to concede 2 earned runs on 6 hits en route to a 3-2 victory over Queens University of Charlotte; senior Katie Van Gieson was credited with the win and sophomore Alex Waldroup got the save as the 4 Trojan hurlers combined for 7 K's on just 2 walks to tally their first win in 11 contests. Van Gieson pitched 1 2/3 innings, striking out one, no walks and just one hit to help start the Trojans toward the win. The Lady Trojans got the bats going early as Meredith Knox was 2-3 with a run and an RBI, and Kasey King helped the cause with her 1-3, one run, one RBI performance. After having another series rained out and cancelled against Pfeiffer on Friday, the Lady Trojans are just happy to get the game in. Game two did not work out that way, as the Lady Trojans fell 8-0 in 5 innings. AU will head back to Smethers field on Tuesday to take on Erskine in their last Conference Carolinas match-up of the year. The Beville cup will be on the line as the Lady Trojans try to put together a late run before heading to Hartsville next Thursday for the Conference Carolinas tourney.
