LADY TROJANS RETURN TO ACTION, BUT LOSE TWO TO PC

ANDERSON, SC--After going to Clinton, SC back on February 26 and losing two games 8-0 (5) and 7-2, the Lady Trojans had a good bit more competitive confidence on Monday night at Smethers Field as AU lost both games of a doubleheader to Division I Presbyterian College 5-3 and 7-3. Presbyterian's lights out pitching was the same as it was in February, but this time the Lady Trojans were able to capitalize more often on the Lady Blue Hose errors and get some runs over the plate. In game one, Leslie Hensley was spot on for Presbyterian. After the Lady Blue Hose grabbed a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth, the Lady Trojans battled back, putting up 3 runs in the fifth and sixth. Mary Gordon came in for PC in the bottom of the seventh and shut the door for the Lady Trojans as she registered 2 K's to get the save. In game two, sophomore Brittany Howell pitched a complete game with 3 K's on just 1 walk in route to a 7-3 Presbyterian win. The Lady Trojans, facing very good pitching, did not look completely outclassed, as they battled for the better part of both games. AU put up 17 total hits on the night compared to PC's 19, and the Lady Trojans only had 2 errors on the evening. It was eventually a matter of getting runners all the way around the bases. Amber Sutherland led all batters for the Trojans as she went 6-8 with 2 runs for the doubleheader. Catcher Kayla Williams was 4-8 with a run and 3 RBI. The Lady Trojans get back to Division II competition on Wednesday as they face Erskine in an April fool's doubleheader at Smether's Field starting at 4:00PM.
