Track and Field Posts Impressive Marks at Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their indoor slate by posting impressive marks at the Gamecock Indoor Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina, Saturday at the USC Indoor Complex.

"We had a very solid day," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. "We came away with some school records and several high finishes. I was very pleased with the overall outcome."

Freshman Bari Robinson captured fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:30.13, while junior Madison Guest (2:37.04) finished ninth. Junior Sydney Hazel won the mile run in a time of 5:38.15, with sophomore Devan Fisher (6:12.31) capturing third. Freshman Olivia Gardner claimed first place in the 3000 meter run in a time of 10:56.10, with newcomer Grace Gerlock (11:42.20) bringing home seventh. Classmates Mia Swierzs (11:44.41) and Amber Worthy (11:58.13) notched ninth and 10th, respectively.

Freshman Sherin Malone crossed the line in third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.62, with freshman Megan Shahoud, and Jill Baxter finishing third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Shahoud also placed third in the long jump with a distance of 4.87 meters.

Junior Brooklyn Watt placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 12.05 meters and fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.66 meters. Fellow junior Savanna Keese earned fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.66 meters and 16th in the shot put with a toss of 10.09 meters. Sophomore D'Yandra Morris was ninth in the shot put with a toss of 11.86 meters.

On the men's side, freshman Caleb Knight finished 10th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 58.41, with junior Joshua Visi-Clark placing fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:08.0. Classmates Thomas Garrigan (4:40.88) and Jesse Patrick (4:55.44) finished fourth and eighth, respectively in the mile run.

Freshman Ben Boerma (9:12.80) placed third in the 3000 meter run, with senior Parks Edwards finishing just behind in fourth with a time of 9:24.29. Freshman Ned Kennedy (9:30.21), senior Westley Wilson (9:32.02) and freshman Michael Burch (9:47.46) finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

Malik Brown captured second in the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 8.95, with freshman Jonathan Shorter finishing third in a time of 9.31.

Freshman Philip DeGraaf was seventh in the pole vault with a height of 3.65 meters and freshman Eric Hoover was ninth in the long jump with a distance of 5.84 meters.

Anderson will open its outdoor schedule at the Wingate Tri-Meet on Saturday, March 8.
