Track and Field Resumes Indoor Slate at Clemson’s Bob Pollack Invitational

Following a two-week layoff, the Anderson men's and women's track and field teams will get back in action in familiar surroundings as they will take part in Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Tigers' Indoor Complex.

Anderson joins more than 20 schools slated to compete in the two-day event, including ACC members NC State and Pittsburgh and in-state Division I teams Coastal Carolina, Charleston Southern and SC State. In all, more than 700 athletes are scheduled to take part.

The meet is split into two days, with unseeded running events set for Friday and the top sections reserved for Saturday. Field events are the exception. All field events are seeded the same way, but are not divided into two days like the running events. Friday's schedule also includes the heptathlon, which starts at 9:30 a.m. with the 60 meter dash, and the pentathlon, set for a 10:30 start in the 60 meter hurdles.

The Trojans are coming off an appearance at ETSU's Niswonger Invitational that saw the women's veterans and newcomers post some strong performances. A trio of newcomers, Olivia Gardner, Grace Gerlock and Amber Worthy finished ninth, 14th and 16th, respectively in the 3000 meter run.

Freshman Sherin Malone finished 12th in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries and posted a 69th-place finish in the 200 meter dash prelims. Juniors Savanna Keese and Brooklyn Watt, along with sophomore D'Yandra Morris all notched top-25 performances in the weight throw. Watt and Morris also placed 13th and 14th, respectively in the shot put. Junior Jill Baxter notched 18th in the high jump with a height of 1.53 meters.

Junior Sydney Hazel claimed 14th in the one mile run, with freshman Bari Robinson finishing 25th in the 800 meter run. Freshman Megan Shahoud placed 35th in the long jump with a distance of 4.44 meters.

The group of Hazel, Gardner, Robinson and Baxter claimed 10th in the women's distance medley.

The Trojan men also recorded strong efforts in Johnson City two weeks ago, as senior Parks Edwards and freshman Ben Boerma pacing AU with fourth and fifth-place finishes in the 3000 meter run. Westley Wilson placed 11th in the event and freshman Ned Kennedy posted a 12th-place finish.

Earlier, Malik Brown crossed the line in 32nd in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries, with freshman Jonathan Shorter finishing 34th. Newcomer Caleb Knight placed 51st in the 400 meter dash prelims, while classmate Eric Hoover notched 68th in the prelims of the 60 meter dash and finished 23rd in the finals of the triple jump.
