ANDERSON, S.C. - Coming off strong individual performances at
Clemson's Orange and Purple Classic, the Anderson track and field
teams will compete at the 36th Annual Niswonger Invitational,
hosted by East Tennessee State on Friday and Saturday.
The Trojans have competed at the indoor event in Johnson City,
Tenn. for four of the past five seasons, with Madison Guest
bringing home 19th in the women's 800 meter run a year ago.
Teammate Sydney Hazel took 27th and Devan Fisher finished 47th.
Former Trojan standout Whitney Bishoff, running unattached, earned
a 16th-place finish in the women's 5,000 meter run.
On the men's side last season, Joshua Visi-Clark captured eighth in
the men's 800 meter run.
Last season, more than 800 student-athletes from more than 60 collegiate teams participated in the meet. In addition to Anderson, the teams included Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Benedict College, Bryan College, Chattanooga, Emory, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, King University, Lee University, Lipscomb, Mars Hill, MTSU, Milligan, Montreat, Murray State, Roanoke College, Southern University at New Orleans, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee Wesleyan, Tusculum, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Western Carolina and Wofford.
Last Saturday the Trojans competed against six NCAA Division I squads at Clemson, with junior Savanna Keese capturing the weight throw with a distance of 15.37 meters. The Seneca, S.C., native also placed seventh in the shot put. Junior Brooklyn Watt placed fourth in the shot put, with sophomore D'yandra Morris bringing home sixth. Freshman Bari Robinson finished in 12th place in the finals of the 800 meter, while classmate Lauren Averitt placed 10th in the finals of the 200 meter run. The Trojan 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of Averitt, Hazel, Jill Baxter and freshman Megan Shahoud finished 10th.
Joshua Visi-Clark paced the Trojan men in the 800 meter run,
crossing the line in 13th, with freshman Jesse Patrick finishing
16th. Senior Parks Edwards placed 18th in the 3,000 meter run, with
freshman Michael Burch finishing 20th.
