Trojan Track and Field Competes at Orange and Purple Classic

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University track and field teams opened their indoor seasons by competing at Clemson's Orange and Purple Winter Classic, with juniors Savanna Keese and Brooklyn Watt highlighting the Trojan effort Saturday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.

Competing against a small but challenging field that was comprised of the host Tigers, Georgia Tech, Virginia, UNC Asheville, South Carolina State and East Tennessee State, Keese won the weight throw with a distance of 15.37 meters.

Watt captured fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.02 meters, with sophomore D'yandra Morris bringing home sixth with a distance of 11.78 meters. Keese placed seventh after recording a distance of 10.47 meters.

Freshman Bari Robinson brought home 12th place in the finals of the 800 meter run in a time of 2:28.29, while classmate Lauren Averitt (28.30) placed 10th in the finals of the 200 meter run. The Trojan 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of Averitt, juniors Jill Baxter and Sydney Hazel and freshman Megan Shahoud finished 10th.

On the men's side, junior Joshua Visi-Clark paced the Trojans in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 13th with a time of 2:06.82. Newcomer Jesse Patrick finished 16th in a time of 2:08.58.

Senior Parks Edwards (9:23.82) placed 18th in the 3,000 meter run, with freshman Michael Burch finishing 20th in a time of 10:19.20.

Anderson will get back in action on Jan. 17-18 at East Tennessee State's Niswonger Invitational.
