Trojans Claim No. 3 Seed in SAC Men’s Tennis Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Closing the 2015 South Atlantic Conference with nine victories, Anderson University men's tennis claimed the No. 3 seed in this weekend's SAC Tournament and will take on No. 6 seed Lincoln Memorial in the opening round, announced by the league office Sunday evening. First serve from the Brevard College Tennis Complex is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Despite a setback to USC Aiken to close their regular season on Thursday, the Trojans come into the annual tournament with a 13-4 overall record following a 9-2 mark within the league. Prior to the setback, AU captured wins in back-to-back matches over nonconference rival, Emmanuel, and SAC opponent, Lenoir-Rhyne.

Earlier this season, the Trojans picked up a narrow 5-4 victory over LMU on March 21, marking their first win in Harrogate since AU joined the SAC in 2011. The triumph marked Anderson's second straight win over the Railsplitters over the past two seasons, after Lincoln Memorial knocked off the Trojans in both meetings in 2013. In the final matchup that season, LMU eliminated Anderson in the second round of the SAC Tournament.

The Railsplitters closed their 2014 regular season on Sunday following a 7-2 victory over in-state and conference rival, Carson-Newman. The win snapped a three-match setback streak, as Lincoln Memorial will come into the postseason with an even 7-7 record and a 6-5 mark in the SAC.

The Black and Gold seeks their first win in the SAC Tournament since 2011 when AU claimed the SAC Tournament title in its first season in the conference. Since the title, the Trojans are 0-3 including a 5-4 setback to Queens in the opening round a season ago.
