Men’s Tennis Upsets No. 29 Queens, 5-4

ANDERSON, S.C. - Despite earning just one victory in the doubles round, Anderson University men's tennis captured four singles matches and claimed a come-from-behind 5-4 upset victory over No. 29 Queens Wednesday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 7-1 overall with a perfect 4-0 mark in league play, as they have won their last four contests. On the other side, the Royals dropped their first decision of the season and fall to 6-1 with an even 1-1 mark in the SAC.

In the doubles portion, the junior tandem of Paul Michael Calhoun and Inaki Iriberry posted an 8-6 victory over Royals Zachary Williams and Ole-Jacob Meum at the No. 3 position for AU's lone win early on. Queens answered Anderson's win with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 and an 8-6 triumph at the No. 2 slot.

The Black and Gold bounced back in the singles round, as sophomore Juan Carracedo tallied a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jules Athalis, while freshman Harrison Kansol added a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Williams at the No. 6 position. Sealing the team win was Iriberry and sophomore Mateo Rivas, as Iriberry notched a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 win over Will Roberson at No. 3, while Iriberry clinched the triumph by defeating Meum 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5. While clinching the team win, Iriberry was the lone Trojan to pick up two victories for the afternoon.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday when it hits the road for the first time in six matches, as it heads to SAC rival Tusculum. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
