Men’s Tennis Knocks Off Carson-Newman, 8-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Sweeping through the singles round, Anderson University men's tennis notched an 8-1 victory over South Atlantic Conference rival Carson-Newman on Monday at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.

With the victory, the Trojans move to 7-2 on the season and capture their fifth win in their last six contests. The Eagles are still seeking their first win of the season and drop to 0-3 overall.

AU started strongly with two doubles victories, as the sophomore pair of Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas knocked off Stefano Daza and Jordan Knott, 8-3, at the No. 1 spot. Capping off Anderson's wins for the round, Nicolas Ascarrunz and Harrison Kansol fended off Kevin Mendes and Juan Sebastian Perez at No. 2 with a 9-8 victory.

In the singles round, the Trojans posted six victories, as Carracedo defeated Joao Pedro Oliveria 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1, while Ascarrunz tallied a three-set win over Daza, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at the No. 2 position. At No. 3, Rivas posted a 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 triumph over Perez, while junior Paul Michael Calhoun claimed a 7-6, 6-4 win over Austin Mackay at the No. 4 slot.

Rounding out the singles portion, junior Inaki Iriberry defeated Mendes 7-6, 6-2, at No. 5, while Kansol claimed an 8-3 pro-set victory over Garret Duron at No. 6.

Anderson returns to action on Tuesday when it hits the road to Brevard. The action from the Tar Heel State is scheduled for 2 p.m.
