ANDERSON, S.C. - Headlined by a sweep in the singles round, Anderson University men's tennis picked up an essential Beville Cup point with an 8-1 victory over archrival Erskine in nonconference action Monday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 6-1 on the season and take a commanding 7-2 lead in the Beville Cup standings. With 5.5 remaining in the standings, AU would clinch at least a share of the prestigious Cup with its next half-point.

In the doubles round, the team of AU's Mateo Rivas and Harrison Kansol claimed an 8-6 victory over Erskine's (0-4) Alan Pearce and Andre Andre at No. 2. The Trojans capped off the doubles portion with Paul Michael Calhoun and Inaki Iriberry posting an 8-0 blanking of Benny Uy and Eddie Gullino at the No. 3 position.

In singles, Anderson continued its winning trend, as newcomer Nicolas Ascarrunz earned a victory at No. 1 following a retirement from EC's Wilson Mathewes, while sophomore Juan Carracedo recorded a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Jason Harris at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Rivas made his afternoon a perfect one with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Pearce, as Calhoun followed by knocking off Andre, 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 4 slot.
