USCS Eliminates Trojans From NCAA Tournament

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The USC Spartanburg men's tennis team swept the three doubles matches en route to a 5-0 victory over Anderson College (17-7) in the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. USCS (19-4) took a 3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the match. Diego Sist and Ben Ureta fought back from a 5-2 deficit to win the match over Karan Doctor and Daniel Pollock, 8-5. Aly Mandour and David Gustafsson teamed to win 8-3 over Gabor Boczonadi and Sid Sudhakar at No. 2 doubles. Jose Reyes and Stefan Dumitrescu took a dominating 8-1 victory over Carlos Sanches and James FitzGerald at No. 3 doubles. Diego Sist and Stefan Dumitrescu gave USCS the last two points they needed to solidify the win, 5-0. Diego Sist defeated Karan Doctor, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Stefan Dumitrescu defeated Sid Sudhakar, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. USCS will play the winner of Armstrong Atlantic State University (15-10) and Columbus State University (12-7) Saturday at noon. The winner of this match will face the Southeast Region sub-regional winner in Orlando, Fla., on May. 12. Anderson finishes its season at 17-7. 2004 Final Results
