HICKORY, N.C. - After each team notched goals in the opening half, scoring was halted for the remaining 65 minutes as Anderson University men's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

Redshirt sophomore Lars Zimmerman recorded his second goal of the season in the 28th minute when junior William Treichler tossed a long throw into the L-R box. After the ball bounced around, it fell to feet of Zimmerman whose one-timer beat Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper Stefan Dill. The goal was Zimmerman's first goal since Sept. 25 at Queens after he paced the team with six goals a season ago.

Before the Anderson goal, Lenoir-Rhyne scored in the 10th minute of play when Bear leading scorer Ben Jones headed a shot off a long cross from defender Tom Holland. Jones beat AU goalkeeper Bo Haug to earn his seventh goal of the season.

In the final 65 minutes, Anderson outshot L-R 11-4 and earned five more corners than the Bears, but was unable to find a game-winner. Freshman Brad Du Plooy led the team in shots with three, as junior Martin Brain, redshirt freshman Mark Allen and freshman Paul von Hinueber each had two shots. Five players troubled Dill with shots, highlighted by Zimmerman's first half goal.

Defensively, Haug recorded just two saves for the 110 minutes as he saw 12 total shots for the evening. The freshman earned his second draw of the season and moves to 7-2-2 on the year.

"The guys played very hard against a determined Lenoir-Rhyne team," head coach John Murphy said. "The effort was there, but we need to sharpen up on some things if we want to be successful on the rest of the season. We'll get back to work this weekend in preparation for UNC Pembroke on Wednesday."

Anderson hosts UNC Pembroke on Wednesday at Trojan Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
