AU Outburst Buries Pfeiffer

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University scored three goals in a 19-minute span in the second half and went on to post a 3-1 victory over Pfeiffer in a CVAC match Tuesday night at Smethers Field. Jordan Kelly scored one goal and had one assist and Lahnden Ogner had two assists to lead the Anderson attack. "We had a tough week last week," said Anderson head coach Rob Miller. "We rested Sunday and went light on Monday. We look refreshed. We scored goals and that took a lot of pressure off. Once we got up 3-0, we started playing not to lose and they kept attacking. I thought our wing players played well." After a scoreless first half, Anderson, 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the CVAC, scored its first goal at 49:19. Off a restart, Kelly, a freshman from London, England, played a line drive into the box that Rayon Markland knocked into goal with a header. At 63:33, Onger, a sophomore from Abilene, Texas, played a low cross from the right and found Kelly directly in front of the goal. Kelly managed to get a five-yard shot past Pfeiffer goalkeeper David Porley. The goal was Kelly's third of the season. The Trojans increased their lead to 3-0 at 68:07 when Onger knocked the ball off the end line to Douglas Nyame, who booted a one-timer into the back of the net. In the last 20 minutes, the Falcons turned up the heat, but the Trojan defense managed to hold on. Pfeiffer, 6-4 and 4-4, broke up the shutout at 75:52 with a penalty kick by Mark Nerkowski. The Falcons were awarded the penalty kick after Anderson was called for a hand ball in the box off a restart. Anderson goalkeeper Andy Barth made four saves to pick up the victory. 2006 Anderson Men's Soccer Statistics
