Lander Blanks Anderson In Men's Soccer

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Adam Arthur netted two goals -- one on a penalty kick and the other from 40 yards out -- to lead the No. 19-ranked Lander men's soccer team to a 4-0 non-conference victory over Anderson University Tuesday night. Lander improves to 6-1 overall, while Anderson drops to 2-5. Nick Cooke gave Lander a 1-0 lead at 35:37 on an assist from Martyn Bell for the only scoring in the first half. At the 73:43 mark, Ivan Stoykov dribbled the ball virtually untouched from 25 yards, lofted it over the goalkeeper's head then lined it to the back of the net to give Lander a 2-0 lead. Lander increased the lead to 3-0 at 85:06 on Arthur's penalty kick, followed by his scoring launch from the 40-yard mark. Lander outshot Anderson, 19-12, but the Trojans led in corner kicks, 6-3. Anderson goalkeeper Andy Barth recorded four saves, while Lander's Clark McCarthy, who was making his first start, had three. 2006 Anderson Men's Soccer Statistics
