KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Anderson University men's golf team sits in 11th place following the first day of action at the 6,971-yard, par 71 Irish Creek Intercollegiate, hosted by Pfeiffer University Monday at The Club at Irish Creek.
Junior Arran Setro paced the Trojans' first-round effort with a 1-over-par-72, which places him in a two-way tie for third, just four shots behind Brevard's Kim Koivu, who posted a 3-under-par 68 to lead the event.
Setro is tied with Limestone's Cody Clepper, while Erskine's Brad Thorne is in second following an opening-round 71.
Anderson senior John Moore fired a 6-over-par 77 and sits in an eight-way tie for 24th, while Payden Parrish carded a 79 to share 44th. Sophomore Jon David Ozmint in in 87th after a first-round 93.
Belmonts Abbey's B squad (293) leads the 15-team field by three shots over Brevard (296) and sits four strokes in front of Erskine (300) and Queens (300) which are tied for third. The Trojans (321) are four shots ahead of Mars Hill (325) and trail Capital University (319) and Sand Hills Community College (319) by two strokes.
The two-day event is scheduled to wrap up with 18 holes on Tuesday.
