Men’s Golf Fifth at Southern Wesleyan’s Mutt’s Invitational

EASLEY, S.C. - The Anderson University men's golf team is in fifth place following Monday's first-round action of the Mutts Invitational, hosted by Southern Wesleyan at Smithfields Country Club.

Southern Wesleyan broke its school record with a team total 288 and leads the nine-team field, while Emmanuel is nine strokes further back after carding a 297. Southeastern University (306) is in third, while Tri-County Tech (314) is fourth. Anderson (318) leads sixth-place Truett-McConnell (319) by one shot and Cape Fear Community College (323) by five. Virginia-Wise (339) and Clearwater Christian (347) are eighth and ninth, respectively, heading into Tuesday's final round.

The Warriors' David Brown leads the battle for individual medalist honors after carding a 4-under-par 68, while Anderson's Sean Shelton fired an even-par-72 and is tied for third.

AU junior Arran Setro (77) is five strokes further back, while Payden Parrish fired an 83 and Rob Warren carded an 86. Sophomore CJ Messana wrapped up the first day with a 91.

The tournament concludes Tuesday and Anderson wraps up its fall season at this weekend's Lincoln Memorial Fall Classic, hosted by LMU at the Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville, Ky.
