CONOVER, N.C. - Paced by Sean Shelton's eight-over par 152, the Anderson University men's golf team sits in a tie for third following first and second-round action of the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship Monday at the Rock Barn's par 72, 6,944 yard Jones Course layout.
Shelton sits alone in 15th, while Anderson's Arran Setro and Chase Epting are two strokes further back after posting 10-over par 154s on the day and are tied for 18th. John Moore carded an 11-over 155 and enters Tuesday's final round in a tie for 20th. Freshman CJ Messana rounded out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 44th with a two-round-total 171.
As a team, Wingate led the overall men's field on Monday, finishing the two rounds with a team score of even-par 576 - 27 strokes better than second-place Newberry.
The Bulldogs were led by Clifford Blanquicet's first-round score of two-under 70, while teammates David Crawford and Braden Jackson each shot two-under in round No. 2 as well.
Newberry, meanwhile, was paced by a standout opening day from Matthew Campbell, who shot rounds of 69 and 71 to finish Monday at a Championship-best four under.
Campbell was the only player in the field to finish the day under par.
Anderson, Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial and are each tied for third after finishing with team scores of 615.
Lenoir-Rhyne is sixth at 617, followed by Tusculum, Brevard, Catawba and Mars Hill.
In the race for the SAC Championship's individual medal, Crawford and Antoine LeSaux trail Campbell by four strokes and enter Tuesday's round at even par, Jackson is six back at two over, and Denton and L-R's David Glenister are eight shots back at four over par.
