ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's golf team trails Erskine, 2-1, following the first day of head-to-head match play competition versus its local rival Thursday afternoon at the 7,005 yard, par 72 Cobb's Glen Country Club.
Thursday's match play allowed for three two-player teams under a "best-ball" format, meaning three points were up for grabs heading into Friday's action.
The Trojan tandem of senior Chase Epting and sophomore Sean Shelton garnered a 2 and 1 win past the Flying Fleet's Ford Blanchard and Jeremy Carrell, but Erskine's pairing of Michael Assey and Wade Ramsey posted a narrow 1-up win over AU's John Moore and Jon David Ozmint. Erskine's duo of Ronnie Funk and Brad Thorne claimed a convincing 8 and 6 win over the Trojans' Arran Setro and CJ Messana.
Friday's event will be hosted by the Flying Fleet at Hunter's
Creek Plantation in Greenwood, S.C., and will feature six
individuals on each team competing again in a match-play format
with six points available. Anderson needs to claim four of the six
points available to win the two-day event. The cumulative team
winner of the two-day nine-point event will earn a point for their
school toward the coveted Beville Cup.
