Trojans Claim Sixth Spot at 2011 Anderson Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Tusculum Pioneers erased a six stroke deficit following the opening day of action to win the Anderson Invitational Men's Golf Tournament n a one-hole playoff with Pfeiffer Tuesday afternoon Tuesday afternoon at the par 72, 7,002 yard Cobb's Glen Country Club in Anderson.

The Pioneers also claimed last year's title in similar fashion, rallying from a three-stroke deficit, and trailed Erskine by six shots following Monday's first-round action. Lenoir-Rhyne, which entered today's round tied with the Pioneers in second place, finished alone in second, while Tri-County Tech moved from seventh to third with the day's biggest overall improvement (16 strokes). Erskine slipped to fourth and Pfeiffer wrapped up the event in fifth.

Anderson finished in sixth, while Spartanburg Methodist, Limestone and Brevard rounded out the nine-team field in seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

TC's Nick York, who started the day two shots off the pace, won a four-hole playoff on a birdie to earn individual honors, while first round leader Brad Thorne of Erskine posted a par.

Junior John Moore (72-79=151) slipped seven strokes off his opening-day even-par effort to finish 15th, while senior Chase Epting (75-77=152) finished in a four-way tie for 16th. Sophomore Sean Shelton (79-74=153) shaved five strokes off Monday's score and finished tied for 20th, while Arran Setro (76-79=155) shared 27th . Freshman Wheeler Renfro (88-77=165) trimmed 11 shots from Monday's first round and nptched a tie for 46th.

The Trojans will get back into action on Monday, Sept. 26 at the Jay Jennison Memorial in St. Augustine, Fla.
