Women’s Track and Field Places Sixth at Wingate Invitational: Men’s Squad Finishes Seventh

WINGATE, N.C. - Paced by juniors Mia Swierzs, Ned Kennedy and Jesse Patrick, the Anderson women's track and field team finished sixth, while the men's squad placed seventh at the second annual Wingate Invitational, Friday at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.

Competing in a field of 475 student-athletes from 14 schools, Swierzs finished second in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 42:37.40 while teammate Allison Halperin was just behind in third with a time of 45:31.14. Sophomore Hannah Sanford was third in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 19:27.99, while Amber Worthy was ninth with a time of 21:28.66.

Freshman Madison Seay claimed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:10.37, with senior Ali Palacios finishing sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.76. Freshman Charity Finley finished eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.33 meters, with freshman Martha Coleman placing 15th in the 1,500 meter run in a time of 5:12.61. Maddie Buddenberg placed 16th in a time of 5:13.91 and freshman Abigail Bozarth finished 25th in a time 5:29.33.

Sophomore Taylor Morris was 16th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:34.34, while Bozarth was 23rd in a time of 2:38.91. Junior Bari Robinson finished 28th in a time of 2:43.27.

On the men's side, Kennedy won the 10,000 meter run in a time of 36:09.30 and Patrick won the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:25.02. Sophomore John Drummond finished sixth with a time of 11:00.60.

Sophomore Brelyn Alston-Barkclay finished second in the men's high jump with a height of 1.91 meters, with junior Eric Hoover finishing eighth in the triple jump with a distance 12.27 meters and seventh in the javelin throw with a distance of 41.51 meters.

Junior Ben Boerma finished seventh in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:09.96, with Michael Burch claiming 19th in a time of 4:21.45. Freshman Brandon Kauer was 25th in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 52.51. Kauer also finished sixth in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.00.

The Trojans are scheduled to get back in action, March 31-April 2 at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla
