Women Place Fourth, Men Finish Fifth at SAC Track and Field Championships

HICKORY, N.C. - Buoyed by more than a dozen Trojans who earned All-Conference honors on the final day of competition, the Anderson women's track and field team finished fourth and the men's squad placed sixth at the 2016 SAC Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Junior Sherin Malone won her third consecutive SAC title by winning the women's 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.35, while senior D'Yandra Morris claimed third place in the women's shot put with a distance of 11.70 meters, while freshman JoLyn Copeland was 10th with a toss of 9.95 meters. Copeland also finished ninth in the discus throw with a distance of 30.29 meters.

Freshman Bailey Waldbart claimed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.46 meters, while freshman Ashley Rinehart was eighth with a height of 2.56 meters.

Sophomore Haylee Love was third in the 1500 meter run in a time of 5:15.74, with senior Ali Palacios placing third in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 14.76. Freshman Tori Cooper finished fourth in the women's 400 meter dash in a time of 58.69.

Freshman Madison Seay was fifth in the women's 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.72, while the team of Sherin Malone, Palacios, Seay and Cooper claimed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay.

Junior Olivia Gardner (18:09.99), sophomore Hannah Sanford (19:01.89), junior Grace Gerlock (19:31.92), freshman Maddie Buddenberg (19:45.77) and freshman Martha Coleman (20:10.39) finished fourth, eighth, 10th,12th and 17th, respectively in the 5,000 meter run.

Cooper, Palacios, Seay and Taylor Morris combined to finish seventh in the 4x400 meter relay.

On the men's side, sophomore Anthony Aleruchi finished eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.56 meters, while finishing third in the discus throw with a distance of 43.13 meters.

Sophomore Christopher Burton (13.42 meters) and junior Eric Hoover (12.75 meters) were seventh and 10th, respectively in the triple jump, with Burton taking second in the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.62. Burton was also second in the 200 meter dash in a time of 21.32.

Freshman Luke Rochester finished second in the pole vault with a height of 4.26 meters, with junior Philip DeGraaf just behind in third with a height of 3.81 meters. Sophomore Caleb Stephenson was second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.36.

The team of sophomore T.J. Robinson, Stephenson, Brandon Kauer and Burton were second in the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 42.30.

Sophomore Mason Hazel finished third in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 14:59.23, with junior Michael Burch (15:47.80), junior Jesse Patrick (16:29.85), junior Ben Boerma (16:30.38) and junior Ned Kennedy (16:59.25) finishing 10th, 17th, 18th and 20th.

Burton, Rashod Monts, Stephenson and Kauer combined to finish seventh in the men's 4x400 meter relay.

Next up for the Trojans is the Georgia Invitational on April 29-30.
