Trojan Track and Field Opens Buccaneer Invite with Strong Performances

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Paced by freshman Martha Coleman and sophomore Christopher Burton, the Anderson men's and women's track and field teams posted strong performances on the first of two days of East Tennessee State's Buccaneer Invitational, Friday afternoon at the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center on David E. Walker Track at Gentry Field.

Competing against athletes from nearly sixty schools, Coleman crossed the finish line in 17th in the women's 5000 meter run with a time of 19:04.41, while sophomore Hannah Sanford was just behind in 18th in a time of 19:05.61. Junior Mia Swierzs (19:54.52) finished in 30th place, with junior Grace Gerlock placing 40th in a time of 20:39.54.

Senior D'Yandra Morris finished 19th in the women's weight throw with a toss of 14.28 meters.

Burton, a sophomore, captured 11th place in the men's 200 meter dash in a time of 22.15, while sophomore Caleb Stephenson (22.74) and Brandon Kauer (22.92) claimed 49th and 59th, respectively.

Sophomore Anthony Aleruchi claimed 29th in the men's weight throw with a toss of 12.92 meters.

Junior Ben Boerma brought home 12th place in the men's 5000 meter run in a time of 15:49.67, while classmate Ned Kennedy finished 29th with a time of 16:21.57. Sophomore John Drummond was 33rd in a time of 16:40.50.

Saturday's events in the Volunteer State get underway at 8:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60 meter hurdles.
