Nine Trojans Capture Outdoor Track and Field All-Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS - Nine Anderson University track and field athletes have earned All-Region honors as announced on Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Olivia Gardner, Sherin Malone and Bailey Waldbart captured the honors on the women's side, while Anthony Aleruchi, Christopher Burton, Mason Hazel, Brandon Kauer, T.J. Robinson and Caleb Stephenson also garnered the accolades by being one of the top five individuals in each event in the Southeast Region or members of the regions' top three relay teams.

Gardner earned the recognition for her performance in the steeplechase, while Malone captured the honor for the 100 meter hurdles. Waldbart was recognized for her prowess in the pole vault.

Aleruchi captured the honor for his efforts in the discus, with Hazel earning the recognition for the 5000 meters. Burton garnered the honor for the 100 and 200 meters, as well as joining Kauer, Robinson and Stephenson in the 4x100 meter relay.

Libby Strickland of West Texas A&M hauled in the most individual All-Region honors as she captured six of them for her efforts during the regular season. Strickland earned All-Region honors in the 100, 200, 4×100, 4×400, high jump and long jump.

All told, there were eight athletes - including Strickland - who took home five or more All-Region awards: Six women (Strickland, Claflin's Trisana Fairweather, Queens (N.C.)'s Nikia Squire, Angelo State's Kami Norton, Grand Valley State's Angela Ritter and Merrimack's Carly Muscaro) and two men (Academy of Art's Mobolade Ajomale and Saint Augustine's Burkheart Ellis Jr.).

No team earned more All-Region honors than the men of American International. The Yellow Jackets nabbed 30 awards, one more than the Queens (N.C.) women.

Including American International and Queens (N.C.), there were five teams that took home more than 26 All-Region honors. Those three other teams were the Grand Valley State women, the Saint Augustine's men and the Southern Connecticut men.
