Baxter Finishes Second at Lynchburg; Sets New School Record for Heptathlon

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Anderson University's Jill Baxter set a new school record en route to capturing second place in the heptathlon with 4,028 points on Tuesday at the weather-delayed Lynchburg College Multi-Event.

On Monday, the sophomore battled adverse weather conditions to set personal bests in all four events, taking first place in both the high jump (1.60 meters) and the shot put (9.36 meters), while claiming fourth place in the 200 meters with a time of 27.60 and finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 17.23.

Baxter entered Tuesday's final three events just 17 points out of second place, behind Washington and Lee's Marissa Thompson, with the long jump, javelin throw and the 800 meter events in front of her. She overtook Thompson by placing second in the long jump with a distance of 4.57 meters, while setting a personal record in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.58 meters to also clam second, and placed third in the 800 meter in a time of 2:34.61.
