Women’s Track Competes at North Carolina’s Gene Anderson Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Anderson University women's track and field team competed at North Carolina's Gene Anderson Invitational on Saturday at the Eddie Smith Field House.

Sophomore Jill Baxter claimed eighth in the women's high jump with a height of 1.55 meters and also placed 21st in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:40.80.

Redshirt sophomore Madison Guest earned 12th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:27.95, while junior Rachel Westberry finished 18th in 2:38.68. Senior Kathryn Purinton was less than four seconds behind Baxter, finishing 23rd in a time of 2:44.40.

Sophomore Sydney Hazel placed 23rd in the one mile run in a time of 5:39.07, while Amanda Mahaffey (12:01.47) finished 22nd in the 3000 meter run.

Freshman D'yandra Morris earned the 11th spot in the weight throw with a distance of 13.17 meters, while sophomore Brooklyn Watt was just behind in 12th at 13.13 meters. Sophomore Savanna Keese placed 18th with a toss of 12.20 meters.

Watt also claimed 12th in the shot put with a distance of 11.40 meters and Keese's distance of 10.49 meters was good for 17th.

Anderson returns to action at the Clemson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
