Trojan Track and Field Posts Strong Outings at PowerSox Invitational

HICKORY, N.C. - The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons by capturing a combined 21 top-ten finishes, including a pair of victories at the PowerSox Invitational, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track.

The Trojan women tallied 11 top-10 finishes, including a pair of wins, with sophomore Madison Guest winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:26.66 and sophomore Brooklyn Watt winning the shot put with a toss of 11.93 meters.

Watt also claimed fourth in the discus throw (32.56 meters) and sixth in the hammer throw (34.66 meters). Re'Jeania Evans finished seventh in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.28 seconds 17th in the 200 meter dash (27.79), while Jill Baxter crossed the line in 18th (27.95).

Sydney Hazel (2:27.05) captured second in the 800 meter run, with Kathryn Purinton notching 22nd (2:45.56). Rachel Westberry placed ninth in the one mile run ninth in a time of 5:46.38, with Amanda Mahaffey (6:07.23) finishing 18th and Devan Fisher (6:27.52) crossing in 26th place.

Joelle Purinton (17.80) finished ninth in the 100 meter hurdles, while D'Yandra Morris took 12th in the discus throw with o toss of 25.08 meters. Savanna Keese finished seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 34.05 meters, with Brooklyn Watkins placing third in the javelin throw at 31.15 meters. Baxter finished fifth with a distance of 30.34 meters.

The Trojan men brought home 10 top-10 finishes, placing second in two events.

Josh Butler finished eighth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.27 seconds and 14th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.25 seconds. The 800 meter run saw Joshua Visi-Clark claim fifth in a time of 1:58.68, while Ryne Welch (2:09.61) placed 24th and Tucker Huelmantel (2:10.07) finished 26th .

Alex Pena garnered 13th in the 5000 meter run with a time of 16:00.69, with Parks Edwards (16:13.18) finished 18th.

Nathan Plank (12.16 meters) and Will Byars (11.87 meters) placed eighth and ninth, respectively in the shot put, with Plank (40.37 meters) placing second in the discus throw and Byars (37.95 meters) finishing third. Plank also captured ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 33.09 meters.

Zach Hart (53.77 meters) brought home second in the javelin throw, while Byars (41.76 meters) finished seventh and Plank (40.08 meters) earned 10th.

Anderson returns to action at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
