ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University freshman Alexandria Braithwaite and junior Calahan Keever have been named the Jimmy John's Female and Male Athletes of the Week.
Braithwaite, a tennis player from Oakville Ontario, Canada, finished in the top-16 at the ITA Regional tournament held in Sumter, S.C. After an opening round bye, Braithwaite defeated her opponents from Newberry (5-7, 6-4, 6-1) and Limestone (6-2, 6-0), before falling to her opponent from Flagler (1-6, 3-6).
Keever, a men's golfer from Greenville, was named the South Atlantic Conference Golfer of the Week on Sept. 21, after carding a school record-tying three-round, 10-under-par 206 and finishing in a tie for first place at North Georgia's Mizuno Intercollegiate. Keever's record-tying effort helped propel the Trojans to the tournament title in a field that boasted twelve of Golfstat's latest top-25 ranked teams - including five of the top 10 squads in the nation - with AU outpacing third-ranked Lee, which was earlier tabbed No. 1 in the nation in the Golfweek Coaches Poll.
The Trojans also outdistanced No. 5 Lincoln Memorial, seventh-ranked North Georgia, No. 8 Georgia Southwestern and No. 10 USC Aiken. Keever finished the 54-hole event tied at the top of the leaderboard.
Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
