ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University women's golf team dropped two of three points on the first day of head-to-head match play competition versus local rival Erskine Thursday afternoon, as the Flying Fleet holds a 2-1 edge at the 5,972 yard, par 72 Cobb's Glen Country Club.
Thursday's match play allowed for three two-player teams under a "best-ball" format, meaning three points were up for grabs heading into Friday's action.
Anderson senior Kalyn Johnson and freshman Natalie Feder teamed up to earn a convincing 7 and 5 win over Erskine's Dallas Roe and Rachel Moore, but the Flying Fleet's Courtney Balcome and Janna Bontreger posted a 4 and 3 victory past AU's Katie Eskew and Sarah Timms, while Laura Buyers and Lindsay Parks dropped a 4 and 2 decision to EC's Tiffany Hutchinson and Anna Jenkins.
Friday's event will be hosted by the Flying Fleet at Hunter's
Creek Plantation in Greenwood, S.C., and will feature six
individuals on each team competing again in a match-play format
with six points available. The Trojans need to claim four of the
six points available to win the two-day event. The cumulative team
winner of the two-day nine-point event will earn a point for their
school toward the coveted Beville Cup.
