Women’s Golf in Finishes Ninth at Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. - The Anderson women's golf team carded a final-round total 338 to finish ninth at the 2011 Myrtle Beach Golf Intercollegiate hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday at the 5,988 yard par-72 Sea Trail Golf Resort.

UNC Pembroke (314-304=618) was one of eight teams in the field to improve their score from Monday and stormed from seven shots off the pace following Monday's opening round to overtake Tusculum (307-314=621) and capture the team title.

The Trojans (326-338=664) slipped 12 strokes to finish just three shots behind Armstrong Atlantic (323-338=661) and nine strokes behind seventh-place Queens (331-324=655).

Individually, AU senior Laura Buyers (81-81=162) was consistent and finished in a five-way tie for 24th, 14 shots off the pace set by UNCP's Dana Watkins, who claimed medalist honors.

Senior Kalyn Johnson (78-89=167) carded a two-day total 23-over par to earn a share of 41st along with teammate Katie Eskew (84-83=167), who improved by a stroke from Monday's first round.

Junior Lindsay Parks (83-85=168) garnered a share of 47th, while freshman Sarah Timms (86-89=175) finished 74th.

Anderson gets back on the links, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18, at the Patsy Rendleman Memorial in Salisbury, N.C.
