ATLANTA, GA. – Anderson University standout women's basketball player, Shameka McNeill earned a spot on the 2022 WBCA NCAA DII All-America Team (Honorable Mention), released on Wednesday morning.
McNeill was honored earlier in the month by the D2CCA Southeast Region as a Second Team member. The native of Charlotte, N.C., had a stellar season for the Black and Gold. On the year, McNeill finished the year averaging 22.1 points per game (36 points career high vs Coker), 3.6 rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game while leading the league and nation in scoring. McNeill reached the 1000-point milestone, scoring 565 points during regular season play and was named the Statistical Champion for Points per Game (22.5). She scored a total of 619 points on the season. McNeill also ranked third in the SAC for steals per game (2.2) swiping a total of 58 for the season.
Julianne Sutton of the University of North Georgia is the 2022 WBCA NCAA Division II Player of the Year and headlines the 2022 WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America team, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced today.
The WBCA presents the Player of the Year award annually to the top player in five of the six WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions II, and III, NAIA, two-year college and high school). The Player of the Year and the 10-member Coaches' All-America team in each division are selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches in that division. The Wade Trophy is presented to the best player in NCAA Division I.
"The WBCA is pleased to name Julianne Sutton as the 2022 WBCA NCAA Division II Player of the Year," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "She is most deserving of this distinguished honor. The WBCA applauds Julianne for her hard work, dedication and contributions to the game during the 2021-22 season."
