ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University women's basketball is seeded fourth in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 2nd vs Limestone at 7 pm.
Wingate, ranked No. 22 in the nation, won the 2021-22 South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title as it finished the season a 21-3 record in conference play. With the title, the Bulldogs have earned the No. 1 seed in next week's SAC Women's Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded yesterday afternoon.
Carson-Newman finished in second with a 20-4 record in conference, earning the No. 2 seed in SAC Championship. Catawba's 19-5 SAC record was good for the No. 3 seed and Anderson also finished at 19-5 and earned the No. 4 seed. Catawba wins the tiebreaker with Anderson, as both teams were 1-1 head-to-head and 1-1 versus Wingate, but Catawba is 1-1 versus Carson-Newman, while Anderson is 0-2.
Limestone slid into the No. 5 seed with a 14-10 record, followed by Newberry at No. 6 seed in the bracket with a record of 12-12 in SAC play. UVA Wise is the No. 7 seed with a record of 12-12 in conference play. Newberry won the tiebreaker over UVA Wise thanks to a 1-1 record versus Wingate, while UVA Wise was 0-2 versus the Bulldogs.
Rounding out the field of eight is Tusculum as the No. 8 seed with a record of 11-13 in SAC play. Tusculum won the tiebreaker over Lenoir-Rhyne by virtue of its 2-0 record versus the Bears.
The 2022 SAC Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday (March 2), before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 5 and 6. The SAC Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. The SAC Women's Basketball Championship schedule is as follows:
