Season Low Scoring Output Helps Catawba Snap Trojans Nine Game Win Streak; 58-46

 

SALISBURY, N.C. – Anderson University women's basketball (18-9, 18-5 SAC) scored a season low 46 points falling to top-tier South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba (20-4, 17-4 SAC) on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gymnasium.

"I am disappointed with today's outcome for sure," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "We didn't play our game and that's on me. We have to put today behind us and move forward"

Graduate Shameka McNeill was the lone Trojan in double-digit scoring, netting 13 points. McNeill grabbed five rebounds and had an assist and a blocked shot. Freshman Diamond McDowell scored seven points, while ripping down nine rebounds. Junior Brittney Stafford chipped in seven points and grabbed six rebounds. The Trojans guard also dished out three assists and was credited with one steal.

Catawba's Lyrik Thorne scored a game-high 19 rebounds with guard Shemya Stanback recording a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Taisha DeShazo chipped in 11 points for the Indians.

Catawba led 27-16 at the half with both teams struggling to score points. Anderson nearly doubled its output of the first half, in the third quarter of action, scoring 13 points.

The Indians held a 13 point lead heading into the final quarter. Anderson outscored Catawba by a point to set the final score, 58-46.

Anderson returns home to host SAC opponent Tusculum on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
