LAURINBURG, N.C. - Paced by three players in double figures, the Anderson women's basketball team opened up its three-game road swing by outpacing St. Andrews, 90-57, Saturday afternoon at Harris Court. The contest featured three ties and six lead changes in the first six minutes, but Anderson (13-9, 12-5 Conference Carolinas) took control after bolting ahead behind an 18-0 run over the next four minutes. Junior guard Lauren Beeson ignited the surge by sandwiching four free throws around an Alexa Neal 3-pointer and the Trojans continued to build the lead with Neal and freshman Maci Siniard at the stripe and 3s from Alissa Diaz and Ashley Abed. St. Andrews (2-18, 1-16) saw freshman Essence Chism leave the game in the opening half with an injury, leaving the Lady Knight's with five players suited up for the contest. Anderson swept the season series with St. Andrews after having defeated the Lady Knights, 75-52, at the Abney center when Abed and Beeson combined for 30 points. The Trojans held a 53-31 advantage at the half and the lead grew to as many as 37 points with 7:09 left on the clock. Abed led the way for the Trojans with 20 points, connecting on 8-of-10 from the field, including a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Senior guard Shanice Wilson and Lauren Beeson each added 11 points, with Beeson hitting on 8-of-10 from the line. Neal netted eight points and dished out a game-high five assists. "It was a strange game," said Anderson head coach Jim Brunelli. "We started out a little slow but then started hitting our shots. It was a good all-around team win." Anderson visits Queens on Monday in the middle game of its three-game road swing, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Charlotte. Box Score
